Exercises For Back Pain
Lack of exercise is one of the latent causes of back pain. Though lack of exercise is not the exact cause of your back pain, executing them make you feel relieved. Depending on the nature and cause of the back pain the exercises can be recommended. Your doctor should be the one to recommend or approve an exercise program for the alleviation of lumbar discomfort. There are different types of exercises that may be recommended.
Stretching exercises are often helpful because they help keep the back muscles flexible and limber. Underuse or shortening of these muscles due to poor posture or a very sedentary lifestyle can often lead to soreness, discomfort and even pain that can range from mild to severe. Gentle stretches forward and back can help extend these muscles and provide relief. Relief may not be immediate, but the stronger and more flexible your back becomes the less you are likely to suffer. Yoga is a commonly recommended form of exercise that many people use for many purposes, including the strengthening and healing of the lumbar region. Yoga is also very soothing and uses deep breathing in conjunction with each pose.
Pilates is another type of exercise that is often recommended for back pain sufferers. Pilates strengthens your core, which is the area of your abdomen and back. Both the abdomen and back work together and when you work with one you should work with the other. Pilates uses a variety of techniques to elicit desired results. Some of them can be done on the floor with no equipment, while other Pilates techniques require equipment. Both yoga and Pilates can be done at home with the help of an instructional DVD or in a class type setting.
Other effective exercises for back pain include water exercises. Water acts like a cushion for the body and many people are able to get great results with a minimum of discomfort when they do water exercises. There are lots of water exercise classes at fitness centers that have swimming pools. You will find everything from water aerobics to water yoga and then some. Individuals with chronic back pain may want to work with a physical therapist who can develop the very best exercise plan to suit their needs and track any progress that is achieved. By tracking progress you will know whether or not your program needs to be modified in any way in order to reach optimal results.
