Tight Calf Low Back Pain

Since the calves and the back are interconnected one can affect the other. If you experience a tight calf, low back pain problem you can very well conclude that they are interconnected. The muscles may cramp and be especially painful at night. This should be taken as a sign that you are experiencing muscle problems related to the spinal nerve root located in the lower back. Often people will experience muscle pain and cramping in the calf without any back pain whatsoever.

Tight calves make it difficult to place your heels flat on the ground without pain. You will also find that walking may be painful. Because people suffering from this problem have a hard time putting their heel to the floor, they are more prone to accidents such as falls. To remedy the problem, the muscles located in the front portion of the leg must be properly dealt with before therapy is applied to the calf muscles. Luckily, there are easy ways to treat these muscles. Simply walking on the heels can help create the contractions of the foot and ankle muscles.

While the pain associated with calf and back problems can be very uncomfortable, the good news is that it can be treated. As mentioned before, the most common treatment is exercise. You may also be directed to take medications to help you manage the pain. If you are seeking alternative therapies you may want to consider treatments like acupuncture to help you deal with the discomfort you are experiencing. Often a balanced blend of alternative and traditional medicine can work better together than either could on their own. These days there are practitioners who combine traditional Western medicine with Eastern healing practices.

If you experience tight calf, low back pain problems, see your doctor as soon as possible. He or she will perform a thorough examination and determine the cause of the problem and the diagnosis. From there you may referred to a specialist or therapist who can treat the problem and/or teach you how to treat the problem at home. Performing the right exercises the right way is crucial for not only gaining improvement but preventing further damage to the muscles.
